There is something powerful about standing together.
In Where We Gather, a row of trees stretches across the canvas, each with its own character, colour and personality. Yet together they create something greater—a sense of community, connection and belonging.
I love the feeling of this piece: the deep, fiery reds of the trees against the cool blues and turquoise, with flashes of gold, pink and white moving through the painting. The reflections below add another layer, almost like memories of the people and places that shape us.
For me, these trees have always been about people. Families. Friends. Communities. The different paths we take, while still being connected to something larger than ourselves.
This is a painting that brings energy and warmth into a room. It has enough movement and colour to become a statement piece, but the rhythm of the trees creates a calming sense of togetherness.
I can imagine Where We Gather in a contemporary home, cottage or creative space—somewhere people come together, make memories and feel at home.

A gentle nudge...
More than 18 years ago I was painting alone in my studio space. I was at the point of great discovery in my art process, so much time ahead for me creatively... I felt less pressure then. During this evening, I felt the presence of my late Grandfather hovering behind me. In this moment, I painted black spray paint over a lace fabric stencil onto a yellow canvas… what appeared before me was a line of trees descending off into the background. I knew at that very moment I had connected to something beautiful.
The tree series brought me great success in the studio and helped me create a name as an artist.
