Don't Tell Me
Acrylic and Spray Paint on Canvas
The "Don't Tell Me I Can't" words were inspired by a conversation I had with my mother back in January, 2020. She was speaking to me about looking after myself and not taking on the burden, for life, of looking after 140 children in the Congo. What I tried to explain to my mother at the time was, there is no choice. I pledged to the universe 8 years ago to "Use Me" ... You can't turn this pledge around. Knowing her intentions were caring and driven by love, it still brought up the piss and vinegar in me and I took it to the canvas. Don't Tell Me I Can't is a statement to the outer world and the inner world of doubt, fuelled always and only by FEAR. There is no place for Fear in my work and in my life.
